HOLI Dhulandi

24th March 2016 (Thursday)

It is the time during the early March of every year, you will witness an amalgamation of colour spreading all over the streets of India (Especially North India), and you will witness vivid colours being painted on every face. Don't be panicked as people go a little wild on the streets, they do it for the purpose of spreading love shouting the slogan “ Bura Na Mano Holi Hai” (Please Don’t mind, it's Holi time).
Holi is a festival being celebrated in India since times immemorial. Holi as a festival has various significance and recognitions in the Indian Customs, cultural and recent scientific studies have discovered the scientific significance of the same.
This festival of colour is also known as Holi and Phagwa in some parts of the count. There is various mythological interpretation for the reason of the celebration of the festival.
One of the versions of the story says that holi began when Hiranyakashipu wanted to burn is son Prahlad for worshipping God Vishnu. While Evil king Hiranyakashipu forbids his son Prahlad to offer prayers to Vishnu, Prahlad continues to do so. Seeing this Hiranyakashipu ordered his sister Holika (who is believed to be immune to fire) to sit on a pyre with Prahlad. Prahlad takes the challenge and while the fire starts everybody witness Holika burning down to ashes while Prahlad being safe without a scar. Holika prays for the forgiveness to Prahlad and Prahlad blesses her to be remembered every year during the festival of Holi.
The festival of holi has a deep cultural signification in India. The blending of various colours signifies the blending of various cultures. This is the time when the social restrictions are being freed. Holi helps to abridge the societal gaps and letting everybody feel equal. The difference in caste, sex, status and age are broken thus bringing the feeling of oneness.
Recent studies have found the association of the festival with benefits which are scientifically proved.
The festival is being celebrated during the time when the weather starts changing gradually. This is the time our body feels dull and lazy. This festival helps the rejuvenation of health.
The weather change during the time is also associated with our body being prone to various diseases like measles, chicken pox, and viral fever and cold. The natural colour penetrating our skin helps strengthening of our natural immune system thus the festival helps keeping away from various diseases and other heath related issues.
